Child Learning Difficulties Malta

Helping Children Build Stronger Foundations For Learning, Confidence And Success

Is your child finding school more difficult than it should be?

Perhaps they're working hard but still falling behind, struggling to concentrate, becoming frustrated with homework or losing confidence in the classroom.

Many parents contact me before their child has received a diagnosis. They simply know something isn't quite right.

At Child Development Malta, I provide developmental support for children in Malta by focusing on the neurological and sensory foundations that support learning. Through movement-based development, I help children strengthen the skills that contribute to attention, coordination, reading, writing and emotional regulation.

If you're looking for learning support in Malta because your child is struggling at school, you're not alone, and there may be more that can be done to support their development.

What Are Primitive Reflexes?

Is Your Child Struggling At School?

Every child learns differently, but parents often contact me because their child:

• Is falling behind in class.
• Struggles to concentrate.
• Finds reading difficult.
• Has writing difficulties.
• Has messy handwriting.
• Can read but struggles to understand what they've read.
• Finds spelling difficult.
• Has emotional meltdowns after school.
• Gets tired quickly during learning.
• Has difficulty remembering instructions.
• Appears disorganised.
• Lacks confidence in the classroom.
• Finds homework stressful.
• Avoids reading or writing whenever possible.

These are common concerns for families seeking help with child learning difficulties in Malta.

Understanding Learning Challenges In Children

Learning challenges in children can have many different causes.

While every child is unique, successful learning depends on strong neurological, sensory and physical foundations that begin developing long before children start school.

Movement during infancy and the early years helps build the neural pathways responsible for:

• Attention.
• Concentration.
• Coordination.
• Balance.
• Reading.
• Writing.
• Memory.
• Organisation.
• Emotional regulation.
• Learning readiness.

If these developmental foundations are incomplete, children may need to work much harder to achieve the same outcomes as their classmates.

Looking Beyond The Symptoms

Parents often tell me:
"My child is bright, but school is becoming harder."

Many children with school difficulties are intelligent, motivated and eager to learn.

The challenge is not always ability.

Sometimes the brain and sensory systems simply need stronger developmental foundations to support learning efficiently.

Rather than focusing only on academic performance, I look at the underlying developmental processes that influence how children learn.

How My Approach Is Different

Most learning support focuses on helping children manage academic challenges once they appear.

My approach focuses on strengthening the developmental foundations that support learning in the first place.

Primitive reflexes and early developmental movement patterns help build the neurological pathways that support:

• Reading.
• Writing.
• Concentration.
• Coordination.
• Sensory processing.
• Emotional regulation.
• Classroom participation.

Through carefully selected developmental movements, children practise the movement patterns that help strengthen these foundations.

The aim is to support learning in a practical, enjoyable and engaging way.

What Happens During An Appointment?

Every child begins with a detailed consultation.

Before the first session, parents complete a questionnaire describing the challenges they are seeing at home and school.

During the appointment I assess developmental movement patterns and identify areas that may benefit from additional support.

Children are introduced to simple movement activities that encourage healthy sensory and neurological development.

Parents receive practical guidance so these movements can continue at home for a few minutes each day.

Each programme is tailored to the individual child.

Learning Support That Complements School

Many children already receive learning support through school.

My work is designed to complement that support rather than replace it.

I regularly work alongside:

• Parents.
• Teachers.
• Learning Support Educators (LSEs).
• Educational Psychologists.
• Occupational Therapists.
• Speech and Language Therapists.

Working together helps create a consistent approach that supports children across both home and school.

Areas Commonly Supported

Developmental support for children may help strengthen the foundations involved in:

• Reading and writing.
• Concentration.
• Attention.
• Memory.
• Organisation.
• Coordination.
• Balance.
• Fine motor skills.
• Emotional regulation.
• Confidence.
• Classroom participation.
• Learning readiness.

Every child develops differently, so support is always tailored to their individual needs.

A Real Example

One parent brought their daughter because reading had become increasingly difficult.
During assessment, it became clear that visual tracking movements were particularly challenging.

After introducing targeted developmental movements, she became more comfortable following text across a page and continued practising the activities at home.

Every child responds differently, but this illustrates how developmental foundations can influence learning.

When Should You Seek Additional Support?

Parents often contact me if their child:

• Has poor concentration.
• Is struggling with reading and writing.
• Has difficulty following instructions.
• Finds it hard to stay organised.
• Is becoming anxious about school.
• Comes home emotionally exhausted.
• Has been identified as needing additional learning support.
• Is falling behind despite trying hard.

Seeking support early can help identify developmental factors that may be affecting learning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you diagnose learning difficulties?

No, I do not diagnose for learning challenges but I look for retained reflexes that may lead to the difficulties your child has, and then use developmental movements to integrate any active reflexes

Assessments and diagnoses should always be carried out by appropriately qualified professionals where required.

My role is to provide developmental support that complements educational and professional services.

Will this replace school learning support?

No.

Developmental movement programmes are designed to complement learning support already provided by schools and other professionals.

How long will support take?

Every child develops differently.

Recommendations are based on assessment findings, developmental needs and individual progress.

Does my child need a diagnosis first?

No.

Many parents seek help because they know their child is struggling at school, even before any formal assessment has taken place.

What ages do you work with?

I work with children of different ages, and in some cases adults, depending on their individual needs.
