Child Dyslexia Support Malta
Helping Children With Dyslexia Build Stronger Foundations For Learning
If your child has recently been diagnosed with dyslexia, or you're concerned about reading, spelling or writing difficulties, you're probably wondering what the next step should be.
Many parents tell me they know their child is intelligent, yet reading is a struggle, homework ends in frustration and confidence is beginning to suffer.
At Child Development Malta, I provide child dyslexia support in Malta through a movement-based approach that focuses on the developmental foundations that support learning. Rather than teaching reading or spelling directly, I work to strengthen the brain and sensory systems that play an important role in reading, writing, coordination and information processing.
Whether you're looking for dyslexia help in Malta or additional learning support alongside school or specialist intervention, my aim is to help your child become more confident, capable and ready to learn.
Does This Sound Like Your Child?
Every child is different, but parents often contact me because their child:
- Reads slowly or avoids reading altogether.
- Can read words but cannot explain what they have just read.
- Has poor reading comprehension.
- Finds spelling difficult despite practising regularly.
- Reverses letters or numbers.
- Has messy handwriting or struggles to write across the page.
- Forgets instructions easily.
- Finds homework stressful.
- Has emotional meltdowns after school.
- Gets tired quickly when reading or writing.
- Finds it difficult to stay focused in class.
- Is bright but struggles to show what they know.
These are concerns I hear regularly from families looking for child dyslexia support in Malta.

Looking Beyond Reading And Spelling
Dyslexia is often associated with reading and spelling, but many children also experience challenges with attention, coordination, memory, handwriting and processing information.
These difficulties may affect:
- Reading fluency.
- Writing skills.
- Organisation.
- Confidence.
- Classroom participation.
- Emotional wellbeing.
Supporting these underlying developmental skills can make learning feel less overwhelming and more enjoyable.

How My Approach Is Different
Many services focus on assessing dyslexia or providing educational support once a diagnosis has been made.
My work complements that support by focusing on the developmental foundations that influence learning.
Primitive reflexes and early movement patterns help build the neurological pathways that support reading, writing, visual tracking, coordination and sensory processing.
When these foundations are not fully developed, learning may require much greater effort.
Through carefully selected developmental movements, I help children strengthen these foundations so they are better equipped to access learning opportunities.
What Happens During An Appointment?
Every child begins with an individual consultation and developmental assessment.
Before the first appointment, I ask parents to complete a detailed questionnaire to help me understand the challenges their child is experiencing at home and at school.
During the session, I assess developmental movement patterns and identify areas that may benefit from additional support.
Children are introduced to simple movement activities designed to encourage healthy sensory and neurological development.
Parents also receive guidance on movements that can be practised at home for a few minutes each day to reinforce progress between sessions.
Supporting Reading And Writing Development
Many children receiving learning support for dyslexia experience difficulties beyond reading alone.
Developmental support may help strengthen skills involved in:
• Reading fluency.
• Reading comprehension.
• Visual tracking.
• Handwriting.
• Letter formation.
• Spelling.
• Coordination.
• Attention.
• Concentration.
• Confidence.
Every child develops differently, so support is always tailored to their individual needs.
A Real Example
One parent brought their 10-year-old daughter because reading had become increasingly difficult.
During assessment, it became clear she struggled to follow visual movement from side to side without moving her head, making reading physically uncomfortable.
The session focused on movement activities designed to support visual tracking.
By the end of the session she was able to follow text across a page much more comfortably, and her family continued practising the recommended movements at home.
Every child is different, but this illustrates how developmental foundations can influence learning.
Why Early Development Matters
The foundations for reading and learning begin long before children enter school.
During infancy and the early years, movement helps develop the sensory systems and neural connections that support reading, writing and communication.
If aspects of this development are incomplete, children may find learning significantly more demanding than expected.
This is why my work focuses on helping children strengthen the foundations that support learning rather than simply practising academic tasks alone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you diagnose dyslexia?
No. Dyslexia assessments and diagnoses are carried out by appropriately qualified professionals. I look for retained reflexes that may lead to the difficulties your child has, and then use developmental movements to integrate any active reflexes. Once the reflexes have integrated, the symptoms ease away and learning becomes easier.
My role is to provide developmental support that may complement existing educational and professional support.
Is this only for children with a diagnosis?
No.
Many parents seek dyslexia help in Malta because they notice reading, writing or learning difficulties before a formal assessment has taken place.
How long does support last?
Every child is different. I support a child, family or school for as long as it takes until development and learning become efficient and successful.
Recommendations are based on developmental assessment findings and individual progress.
Can my child receive support alongside school?
Yes. Many children attend sessions while continuing to receive learning support through school or other specialists.
What age do you work with?
I work with children of all ages groups ages, and adults, depending on their individual needs.
